Currently, the Steam Workshop doesn’t verify integrity of GMA files before Garry’s Mod mounts them. On top of that, Garry’s Mod will only read 2048 LUA files. Because of these, there are times when addons break. Here, I’m going to help you get your game working again. Or at least, I’ll show you where the problem might be.
Problems downloading the addon?
Are you downloading several addons at once? Try unsubscribing and download them one-at-a-time.
Are weapons missing? Hitting the Lua limit?
Do you have a lot of addons installed? If you install too many addons, you might exceed the lua limit. Try disabling some addons and see if that does the trick. If you want, you can download the GMA files right here from my website at the following locations:
Broken or missing models? Lua Errors?
Neither Garry’s Mod nor Steam verify integrity of GMA files before they are mounted by the game. Sometimes, corrupted GMA files are passed onto the game, and can cause all sorts of strange errors.
The only way to fix a corrupted addon is to delete the GMA file. Garry’s Mod will re-download the addon the next time it is restarted. You can find the GMA files here:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\GarrysMod\garrysmod\addons
Delete the GMA files for the broken addon, and let Garry’s Mod re-download them. If you like, you can also download the GMAs right here at Murderthon9000.com. These GMAs were copied directly from my computer and are verified to work.
Another option you can try is to delete the contents of the Server Downloads folder. This folder might contain outdated or corrupted addons, and I have found that clearing it out has proven useful. All you have to do is delete everything in this folder:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\GarrysMod\garrysmod\downloads\server
Finally, if you’re getting strange errors, it is always possible that an addon is conflicting with others. The best thing you can do here is to disable the addons one by one until you find the addon causing trouble. You should start with the newest addon first.
Usually, missing sounds is a sign of breaking the lua limit. You might get other errors along with this, including errors for missing convars, or missing kill icons. If that’s the case, you should try the steps above.
A few months ago, I changes sounds from WAV files to MP# files to save space. If you haven’t hit the lua limit and you’re still missing sounds, then that means you’re using an out-of-date addon. The proper fix is to get an updated addon, but I have uploaded an addon to the Steam Workshop which gives oyu the original WAV files. You can find this addon here:
Missing .WAV Files for M9K
Unfortunately, there is nothing I can do about failed extractions. The best that I can recommend is that you make sure the GMA files aren’t corrupted, and verify the integrity of Garry’s Mod’s game cache. To do that, right click on the game in the library, and go to
properties>local files>verify integrity of game cache.
That’s pretty much it!
There are only a few things I can recommend when something goes bad:
Replace corrupted addons.
Disable addons if you’ve hit the lua limit.
Check for conflicting addons.
Verify integrity of Garry’s Mod game cache.
If none of this helps you, please leave a message in the comments on the Steam Workshop. I will try my best to get you up and playing!
